Statement of BCTD President Mark Ayers on the Overwhelming Re-Election of Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear
November 8, 2011
WASHINGTON, DC -- The resounding victory tonight by Kentucky's Democratic Governor Steve Beshear sends a compelling message to politicians all across the United States. Coupled with the defeat of the anti-collective bargaining Issue 2 in Ohio, this message is unmistakably clear: American voters increasingly view attacks on workers, unions, and collective bargaining as counter-productive to the task of collectively addressing our continuing economic misery.
Governor Beshear won a substantial victory with a policy platform that included his vocal support for Project Labor Agreements and prevailing wage laws; a crackdown on employee misclassification abuse; and his opposition to a state right-to-work law.
The members of Kentucky's Building Trades Unions, indeed building trades members everywhere, are proud to stand with and support a Governor like Steve Beshear whose success is borne out of a strong, inherent belief in a few basic core values that are centered upon the well-being of Kentucky's working families.
